CASTING
METHODS |
Rose+Bopla uses three methods to produce their die cast aluminum watertight enclosures:
Die Casting, Chill Casting, and Sand Casting.
|
| LIMITATIONS |
Like all products, Rose+Bopla’s cast aluminum enclosures do have limitations. Rose+Bopla cannot change the size of any of these boxes dimensionally. Rose+Bopla’s die cast boxes have depth limitations. Most designs are somewhat shallow. Rose+Bopla cannot increase depth. If depth is a problem, use Rose+Bopla’s
Build-A-Box® enclosures which are made from
aluminum extrusion that can be cut to any depth required. If you cannot find the size you need, please call the factory. We can do a custom size for your application. Tooling costs and minimum order may apply.

COPPER FREE ALUMINUM |
Rose+Bopla uses AL Si 12 alloy in its cast aluminum housings. The term “Copper Free” is used to describe aluminum alloys which contain less then 0.4% copper. Rose+Bopla’s copper content is .10% for Die Castings and .05% for Chill Castings and Sand Castings. It is the reduction in the copper content which increases the natural corrosion resistant properties of aluminum. Copper Free aluminum is particularly resistant to salt atmospheres,
sulfur gases and ammonium nitrate. Above a level of 0.4% copper, the range of corrosion due to galvanic action within the structure of the metal increases rapidly.
Rose+Bopla’s aluminum alloys are highly superior to most ferrous materials. For military applications we irridite these
enclosures to Mil Spec C-5541, Class 1A or Class 3. Rose+Bopla’s “Copper Free” aluminum products provide optimum
protection against galvanic corrosion.

TOLERANCES |
Sufficient
tolerances must be allowed for cast aluminum enclosures
and extruded aluminum enclosures. To properly do this,
refer to DIN 1688 for castings and DIN EN 12020 for
extrusions. Refer to tolerance charts. |
We have attempted to present
the information about our enclosures on this website in a
straight-forward manner. We offer this information as
accurate at the time of publication. Specifications are
subject to change without notice. Rose+Bopla Enclosures is
not responsible for inadvertent errors. |
